PPC Buzz of the Week – Friday 1/29/10
The Sleeping PPC Giant: Apple
Think hard for a second about what could possibly bring Google to its knees and reshape the paid search landscape. First thought that came to my mind… an act of God. In all seriousness though, I couldn’t really answer this question prior to reading this post by Laurie Sullivan. If Apple would exhibit the same technological savvy with a paid search platform that it is conducting with the iPhone and iPad, the possibilities for paid search could be endless. Would it bring Google down though? Probably not right away but it would be one heck of a battle and not some 3 round fight. I’m talking Ali – Frazier, Tyson – Holyfield (minus an ear of course), and other great bouts in history. But this is all speculation at this point.

Or disturbing, depending on your view of online advertising and the technological metropolis that gave rise to it. According to a recent study by the Kaiser Family Foundation, children ages 8 to 18 spend most of their day (7.5+ hours) utilizing a smart phone, a computer, and, of course, a television. This means a number of things for those who have a message or product to deliver/present to the public, and indicates that the field of Internet Marketing has a very healthy future ahead—assuming nothing happens that either takes us back to the stone age, puts our fate in the hands (or jaws) of zombies, or both (which would really suck; who wants to fight zombies without guns or chainsaws?). PPC Buzz of the Week – Friday 1/22/10
For another week we’re going to focus on a single PPC topic, with this one coming up as a result of some interesting statistics surrounding one of our ecommerce PPC clients. This ecommerce client has been using the new Google Product PlusBox, or Product Extensions depending on who you ask, feature for AdWords ads with some rather surprising results.
We first blogged about the Product PlusBox feature in a PPC Buzz post back in August 2009, but this feature was still in beta at that time. Since then, Google Product PlusBox has come out of beta testing and is available to all AdWords advertisers. That being said, this DragonSearch client has been using the Product PlusBox feature for a few months now and just recently we’ve begun to notice not many searchers are viewing the extension.
For reference, in order to view the product extension a user must hit the “+” sign under the AdWords ad where it states “Show Products from ….” as displayed below. Please note this is not our client.

Choosing between SEO and SMM? Don’t!
Social Media is either the bane of a company’s marketing plans because they know they have to get into it and they have no idea how or social media is the new apple of their eye and said company cannot wait to jump all over it.
Business Should NOT Ignore Social Media
I’m really and truly glad to see that more and more companies are realizing that social media is not just a new fad and probably something that they should be considering. After all, not only is it job security, but I honestly know that anyone who is trying to ignore Social networking with the hope that it will fade out is going to really be hurting their business. While it was only last week that traffic analyst firm Hitwise shows a clear graph demonstrating what was heard last year at the #140Ctitter Conference in NYC that social networking sites have surpassed the traffic search engines receive. PPC Buzz of the Week – Friday 1/15/10
We’ve decided to take a slight deviation from the normal buzz worthy topics to focus on one single PPC related topic this week: the coming attraction of click to call mobile phone ads.
As of today there is no information on the Inside AdWords blog about this upcoming release, but below you’ll find the information I received just last week from Google.

Sadly, we SEOs do not have enough in terms of insider jokes that we can be proud of, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a special batch of us who aren’t trying! Let’s face it: When you’re in any industry long enough, you become engrossed in all kinds of new concepts and jargon that you can create humorous relationships among. Of course, only certain people will understand these abstruse, short, but clean jokes, yet that fact is where half the humor lies; for you are then certain of your being an elite SEO nerd. (more…)

PPC Buzz of the Week – Friday 1/8/10
Welcome to 2010 and Happy New Year’s PPC folks. The Buzz has been on a rather lengthy hiatus and we apologize for that, but its back and better than ever. So without further ado, here’s the first PPC Buzz of 2010.
Contact Forms in PPC Ads
According to Amber over at PPC Hero, Google is introducing a new ad extension: contact form extensions. I have yet to receive an offer from my Google rep to participate in the beta but in all honesty I’m a little skeptical of it anyway. My reasons are the following: (more…)

What the Discovery Channel Won’t Tell You During Armageddon Week
Back in simpler times, people turned to God and religion to answer their questions. Whether it was spiritual advisement, or personal direction or the bigger philosophical questions of “what does it all mean”; the churches and their leaders had the answers.
Personally, I had thought that Freud and modern counseling took a lot of that power of people away from the churches and religions. Instead of going to traditional confession to make people feel better about their lives or their supposed “sins”, they went to lie down on a therapists couch and have the counselor tell them either what to do, or give them direction or inform folk that they were “normal.” In a way, absolve them of their sins and a new direction for those acts of contrition.
