Thesis Wordpress Theme and Affiliates

July 5th, 2010 by Ric Dragon

Wordpress is, in my opinion, is one of the great phenomena’s of the Internet phenomenon.  I’m talking about the open source blogging software here, not the hosted blogging platform.  The software has undergone incredible refinement and improvement, primarily from a base of programmers donating their time and expertise.

There are also countless plug-ins and themes (template systems) that developers sell.  Many of them are incredible bargains.  If you consider the potential cost of having someone create custom programming, the availability of plug-ins, both free and for a cost, is simply wonderful.

I first heard about the Thesis theme from my director of SEO, Etela Ivkovic.  Etela had been participating in a webinar being given by an industry expert.  The expert had mentioned that Thesis is the way to go (more…)

Understanding SEO & SMM: What We Can Learn from Soft Drinks

May 20th, 2010 by Danielle Correia

A popular soft drink company is adapting their marketing tactics in the developing world.  In many communities where poverty is widespread, store owners have bars and chains on the majority of their products, including soft drinks.  Many sleep, gun-in-hand, in their store to ward off any potential night raids.  The threat of crime essentially hinders any relationships that might form between a business owner and their clients.

Online Marketing Strategies often need hand holding for client guidance

Realizing this, the soft drink company decided to put the trust back into the hands of the business owners and their customers.  They issued upright refrigerators and asked the store owners to put them outside their shops, right on the streets, so that passers-by could grab their own drink.  Store owners thought this was truly crazy.  Eventually they agreed and since the campaign began, what shop owners are finding is something amazing: bottles are not being stolen.  Isaiah Sakwara, a local patron, says “as a customer, it shows they believe in us, so you definitely won’t steal”.

Link Baiting

May 12th, 2010 by John Lavin

link baiting hookThe number of inbound links to your website is a metric used by search engines for ranking the website.  The more links a website has to it, the higher rank it will obtain.  So, naturally, SEO incorporates link building, as it is essential to getting high rankings.  Enter link baiting, Wikipedia defines link baiting as, “Any content or feature within a website that somehow baits viewers to place links to it from other websites.”  In other words, link baiting is a method to get links to your page so it ranks higher.  There are many different hooks of link baiting and I will discuss a few of them further below. Search Engine Spiders and Chocolate Cake

May 6th, 2010 by Danielle Correia

How can I possibly relate spiders to chocolate cake?  When I hear a report about how information overload can affect our abilities to make good choices, they were the first thing that came to mind.

Website crawl and search engine crawling by search engine spiders

The study, conducted by Stanford University professor, Baba Shiv went like this:  Several dozen subjects were split into two groups.  The first group received a 2 digit number, while the second group received a 7 digit number.  They were then instructed to walk down the hall, enter another room and recite that number back.  That was all they thought they would need to do.  So imagine, the test subject is walking down the hallway, recalling the number over and over again so they can recite it back.  Then, out of nowhere, they encounter a person that asks if they would like a snack as gratitude for helping with the study.  The person is holding two different snack options that they can choose from.  One snack, considered not healthy (although some might argue) is chocolate cake, the other snack, a healthy bowl of fruit salad.

Online Content Creation Still Rules

April 21st, 2010 by Danielle Correia

After having just watched two Brian Solis webinars that cover topics from his recent publication, Engage and thinking about Social Media and its relationship to search and the changes that Google is making to include social results in search, the only words that keeps popping into my head are online content creation.  As always, content needs to be the most important aspect for your online marketing campaign.

online content creation rules the web (more…)

The Philosopher’s Stone of Link Building: Universal Formulas

February 11th, 2010 by admin

A Link Builder's Dream....

Have I suddenly discovered the best SEO strategies ever through revelation?  No, I have not.  Moreover, I probably wouldn’t tell you if I did (can you say trade secret?).  I do have a thing or two to say, however, about this quest we marketers are on to formulate the best, most flexible SEO strategies and link building campaigns; that is, generalizing our tactics so that they are useful in every situation.  Having a handy-dandy formula may make us confident and give us a sense of security when addressing a new client, but it is ultimately not for the best.  Here is why.  (more…)

Some Funny Jokes, SEO Style

January 14th, 2010 by admin

Sadly, we SEOs do not have enough in terms of insider jokes that we can be proud of, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a special batch of us who aren’t trying!  Let’s face it:  When you’re in any industry long enough, you become engrossed in all kinds of new concepts and jargon that you can create humorous relationships among.  Of course, only certain people will understand these abstruse, short, but clean jokes, yet that fact is where half the humor lies; for you are then certain of your being an elite SEO nerd. Postmodern SEO: The Real Deal (That Tongue Better Be In Your Cheek Again)

December 17th, 2009 by admin
"postmodern wallpaper"

This will blow your mind....

What intrigues me is that there is an interesting and very intelligent comparison of postmodernism and SEO on another blog (and it is a mere two weeks older!).  I thought this post would be something of a first of its kind.  Nonetheless, I intend on going into the true nature-assuming there is one-of Postmodern SEO, and not just a simple exposition.  What the postmodern approach means for the entire SEO enterprise will be made quite clear in the following.

And do not worry; there is a moral at the end of this extremely strange story which shows both SEO and relativism/postmodern philosophy at their worst. (more…)
